North East Bushrangers Launch the Bev Suter Bushies Spirit Award
The North East Bushrangers Basketball Club is proud to announce the introduction of the Bev Suter Bushies Spirit Award, a prestigious annual honour recognising the individual who best embodies the values, culture and spirit of the Bushrangers family.
Named in honour of Bev Suter, one of the club’s most respected and influential figures, the award celebrates those who make an outstanding contribution to the club through their character, commitment and positive impact on others.
For many years, Bev Suter exemplified everything the Bushrangers stand for. Her unwavering dedication, generosity, encouragement of young people and commitment to building a welcoming basketball community helped shape the culture of the club and left a lasting legacy that continues today.
Rather than recognising athletic performance or on-court success alone, the Bev Suter Bushies Spirit Award celebrates those who consistently place the team before themselves, support teammates and fellow volunteers, demonstrate respect and sportsmanship, lead by example and contribute positively to the Bushrangers community.
The award is open to all members of the North East Bushrangers family, including players, coaches, team managers and volunteers. Nominations will be submitted by coaches, team managers, club officials, players and Club volunteers before being assessed by an independent selection panel against a clear set of criteria focused on commitment, leadership, sportsmanship, positive influence, service beyond expectations and representation of the club’s values.
North East Bushrangers President Matt Nelson said the award is about recognising the people who quietly make the club stronger every day.
“Every successful sporting club is built on more than wins and losses. It is built on people who encourage others, volunteer their time, lead with humility and create an environment where everyone feels welcome. Bev Suter represented those qualities throughout her involvement with our club, and it is fitting that our highest recognition for club spirit carries her name.”

The inaugural Bev Suter Spirit of the Bushies Award will be presented at the North East Bushrangers End of Season Presentation, where the recipient will receive a perpetual honour recognising their outstanding contribution to the Bushrangers community.
The North East Bushrangers look forward to celebrating the remarkable individuals who make the club more than just a basketball organisation—they make it a family.
