North East Bushrangers Academy Secures Basketball Australia Master Coach

The North East Bushrangers Basketball Club has secured David Herbert for its new Academy program, providing regional players with the opportunity to benefit from elite coaching.

The North East Bushrangers Academy launched in May, offering both existing players and up-and-coming junior prospects with access to targeted training designed to help them achieve their basketball goals. While the program has leveraged the best of the region’s local coaches to date, the Club has now added external talent to its line-up to further enhance its special program.

Herbert has over 25 years of experience within Basketball Australia pathways, having coached in the NBL1, WNBL, National Junior Championships and as a national team's Head Coach. He has also received numerous coaching accolades including WNBL Coach of the Year, Coach of the Year Victoria and Queensland and the SEABL coach of the year.

“The Academy is a six-week program that has attracted athletes from around the North East, demonstrating the strong appetite this region has for specialised skills development,” said Bushrangers Director of Coaching Brett Harvey. ”David will join us for week five of the program, providing athletes with coaching focused on shooting mechanics and contemporary game play that will really round-out our players’ skill set.

“Bushies is incredibly lucky to have secured a coach of David’s calibre - he has been the driving force behind  Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence for many years, and has the capacity to take our program to the next level.”

The Bushies Academy is open to current registered players, and selected players from the Club’s affiliated teams. Delivery of the Academy program has been made possible through grant funding provided by Sport and Recreation Victoria.
